General Care for Sugilite
Sugilite ranks an average 6 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, which will be softer than most but not all stones in your collection.
Throwing it in a bag with other stones might mean your gemstone gets scratched.
So you'll need to be a bit careful with your Sugilite jewelry.
If you haven't held your tumbled Sugilite crystal for a long time, it may look a bit lackluster.
That's because it's sad. It misses you.
Oh, and because it needs to be cleaned.
How To Clean Your Sugilite Crystal
Good news! Your beautiful gemstone loves bubble baths!
Despite it's soft exterior, it's not very sensitive to chemicals.
There are some porous rocks, like Rhyolite, that shouldn't be washed using soap.
The soap will leave a scent that stays for awhile.
Well.. that could be a plus too.

Tumbled Sugilite won't be harmed by vinegar or lemon juice bath.
How do you give Sugilite a vinegar bath?
Follow these easy steps:
- Fill your favorite bowl with warm vinegar or lemon juice.
- Let your stone chill in the acid bath.
- Using a clean, soft bristle toothbrush, gently scrub the rock. GENTLY!
- Rinse the stone well under warm water and let it dry.
Vinegar does leave a smell. But either time or a quick warm water rinse will get rid of that smell.
Will It Fade?
There are a lot of crystals that will fade if they spend too much time in the sunlight.
Apatite, Calcite, and Creedite are a few crystals that are sensitive to sunlight.
Real Sugilite will not fade in the sun.
No need to keep this beautiful piece inside all day -- take it out for some sun!
How to Charge Sugilite
There are many ways to charge your Sugilite crystal: salt bath, dirt bath, and direct moonlight.
We prefer to take raw Sugilite and tumbled crystal back to Mother Earth for 24 hours.
Dig into the ground outside and let it rest overnight, or longer, before digging up a freshly charged stone.
If you're working with raw Sugilite, then we suggest using a cloth bag or a form of natural covering to dirt from falling into the porous surface.
No need to do this if you're working with a tumbled stone.
And as with all crystals, a night in direct moonlight will work magic for cleansing your crystal too.
